Many people are seen to be more comfortable with using contact lenses rather than spectacles. There are many practical advantages related it socially and recreationally and it also helps while playing sports. It helps in naturally correcting the vision of the eye and even gives a better look and presentation. For many people wearing contact lenses is a better option and this also gives a sense of confidence in them. However, researches have other things to say. It says that the chances of infection are more when it comes to wearing contact lenses. It’s never suggested to sleep wearing contact lenses at night. A new type of lenses which are called silicone hydrogel are however less harmful than general lenses.

Disinfection

It’s very important that proper care regime is followed when it comes to handling contact lenses. Your practitioner will guide you through this and let you of the best products suiting you. Lens solutions are available to disinfect this lens and this solution should be discarded after every use and the process of rinsing and rubbing is also required when putting the lens in the lens case for the specific period of time. Only those care products should be used which your practitioner have suggested you.

Case care

The storage case which is used for keeping lenses should be rinsed daily and kept in open for drying. They should be replaced every month with a new one and it should be washed with contact lens solution with a neat and clean tooth brush.

The daily disposable contact lenses are getting popularity and this lens does not require rinsing or cleaning as they are thrown after each use. They should be worn only once and no solution is available for cleaning them and using them again may prove harmful. This is however still essential that you go regularly for check up to your practitioner.

Extended wear lenses have special characteristics and they can be worn over night as well. The practitioner will guide you as to how to use them and how to take them out if you need to during the life span of this lens of about a week or may be a month. Wearing this kind of lenses calls for more regular check ups.

Useful tips for contact lens care

The following tips are useful for all kinds and types of contact lens:

ALWAYS

• wash your hands nicely before handling lens.

• Keep your spectacles ready as you might need to take of lens at any point of time.

• keep replacing lenses at intervals as told by practitioner.

• Regular check-ups with your practitioner is essential.

• Take professional advice if you are not uncomfortable wearing these lenses.

NEVER

• Seek advices immediately if you have a red eye, even at night do not go to bed with that.

• Tap water should never be used for contact lenses.

• Saliva should never come in contact with these contact lenses.

• Contact lenses should never be worn while swimming and only if goggles are used contact lens should be worn.
