Computer vision syndrome

With the growing use of computers at home and at work, many people are facing an eye problem called computer vision syndrome or CVS. Sitting in front of computer screen for long can cause damage to the eye which may be a permanent damage as well. There are many questions which are yet to be answered in case of CVS but the discomfort and the problems which CVS can create your life in a major way as well as your career because your performance will be affected and so will be your personal life and confidence. There are few precautions and preventive measures which one can take for protecting yourself from CSV.

Causes of Computer Vision Syndrome

The major reason why CSV occurs is the unpleasant and unsuitable ambience and environment along with the inappropriate use of lenses and spectacles. Few modifications are needed to prevent this from happening.

Symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome

CSV is the name of the eye vision problem which is caused due to log duration of computer use.

The symptoms of CVS include:

  • Eye irritation (Dry eyes, itchy eyes, red eyes)
  • Blurred vision
  • Neck aches
  • Backaches
  • Headaches
  • Muscle fatigue

Though according to many eye specialists, CSV do not cause any permanent damage but it surely affects your daily life as your vision gets impaired and you loose considerable amount of vision power. There are many ways one can consider to save himself/herself from protecting against the effects of the CSV.

Solutions for Computer Vision Syndrome
There are mostly environmental issues which are related to CSV and these issues can be cleared if properly take care of. Solutions to these environmental issues are:

  • There are many ways once can protect himself/herself from the dangerous reflections that occur in the screen y closing windows, adjusting light, optimizing screen colour and brightness and using screen protector or hood available in the market.
  • The screen should be at a considerable distance from eyes which should be around 20 to 26 inches and the screen should be straight to put less strain on eyes. The screen should be around few inches below eyes so as to put less pressure on neck and thus saving from neck ache. It will also reduce the symptoms of dryness and itching that is caused due to long duration of exposure.
  • You can put the reference material near the monitor itself as this will help you in making less movement of neck and eyes thus causing less pressure on both of it. One can even use document holder as it makes it easy for the user and he/she does not have to move back and forth again and again to go through the material.

One should take frequent break while using computer so at to put less pressure on eyes as well as body and this will help in saving you from headaches and watery eyes. You can even use eye drops as well. Body muscles are relaxed by taking this breaks and chances of permanent damage is reduced of any kind.
