Children’s Vision

Children should have a basic eye test at the age of three it self even if you feel your child does not need it or no symptoms are visible. This should include both near and far vision test, binocular vision test, depth perception, fixation skills and color vision test.

Checking up regularly with the eye is very much required during school days and especially if it runs in the family and poor eye vision and spectacles are being worn by most of the members of the family or if any other eye disorder is common among the same.
Vision is the most important and integral part of your body which makes a lot of difference in shaping up your life and gaining experience. It is very necessary that you take proper care of your child’s eye as it means a lot to the whole development of your child’s career and life both socially and otherwise.

If you notices problems like rubbing, frequent blinking, squinting or if he complaints of vision problems in the class room. Ask him not to watch TV a lot or at least make him/her sit at a distance and even ask your child to read book from an optimum distance.
If you find your child’s eye filled with redness, stinging, photo sensitive, wateriness, burning and itching please take immediate steps and visit doctor.

If your child eyes turns in /out, if he closes one eye to have a better look, tilts his head a lot, has poor sitting posture, gets lost while reading, suffers from double vision etc than you need to take him/her to specialist for getting treated to the earliest.
Problems like feeling of clumsiness and also with proper co-ordination of eye hand and body and also if you notice he/her is poor in sports or unable to sit still, than your child might have serious problems which you need to dealt with immediately.

Children learn to see from the time of their birth and getting engaged with different activities help them stimulate eye vision and enhance it as well.
Few suggestions for better eye vision:

    1. Always use bright light for reading.
    2. Do not sit upside down.
    3. Do not look close while reading or working for too long.
    4. Take a break while reading frequently.
    5. Proper posture should be maintained for kids.
    6. Wear glasses only if prescribed by doctor.

Nutrition
The brain and the eye are the two most demanding organs of the body and they require around 25% nutrient of what we consume. Their growth is directly proportional to the nutrients and environment we have.
Give your child proper nutritious food and especially food which have nutrients good for the eyes. Foods and vegetables such as pumpkin, orange, squash, red meat, liver, carrots, broccoli, whole grains, loads of water, sunlight, spinach, parsley and nuts are very helpful for children to develop their eyes and strengthen it forever.
Preventative measure should be taken and if any problems are sighted doctor should be consulted immediately. With proper training and diet, vision should remain strong forever.
